The Silvertone 1423 Jupiter sold by Sears is the premium model of the Harmony H49 Stratotone lineup and is rarely found in the market. As a Silvertone brand, it boasts a unique and stylish finish - charcoal-black with metallic fleck infused with coppery-gold flakes. Its elegant design is complemented by the Silvertone logo on the headstock and the distinctive "window" DeArmond pickups, giving it an upgraded appearance compared to other Stratotone-style guitars.
The wiring for this model is unique, featuring a "blender" control that replaces the middle position in the 3-way switch. This allows you to adjust the blender pot between the neck and bridge pickups, producing a range of distinct sounds. While the tone may be darker and less precise than traditional 3-way operation, it offers a variety of additional sound options. Additionally, each pickup has its own independent tone and volume controls.
Crafted in the style of other Stratotone guitars, this instrument boasts a semihollow construction similar to that of Danelectro guitars. The flat top and back are made of ply birch, while the sides are solid birch. The addition of poplar or pine blocking beneath the bridge and at the neck joint results in a lightweight and manageable overall weight of just under 5 lbs, making it perfect for extended gigs.
