August 3, 2024: The Pacific Duo to Kick Off Malibu Music's Summer of Strings

We are thrilled to announce that The Pacific Duo will kick off Malibu Music's Summer of Strings, a monthly in-store event showcasing new and exciting music from some of the best musicians in the world.

The Pacific Duo: Revolutionizing Classical Music

In an era where classical music often takes a backseat in mainstream culture, two passionate guitarists, Nolan Harvel and Garrett Podgorski, are on a mission to change its perception. Known collectively as The Pacific Duo, these musicians are breathing new life into the classical guitar scene with their innovative approach and exceptional talent.

Garrett Podgorski, a guitarist, composer, and producer based in Los Angeles, started playing guitar at age 9 and quickly gained recognition. By age twelve, he was performing at major events like the Randy Rhoads Remembered Show and earning endorsements from top guitar brands. Transitioning to classical guitar during his teens, Garrett won multiple competitions and placed third in the prestigious Parkening International Young Guitar Competition. As a student at Pepperdine, he has released several albums and continues to perform both independently and with his band, Byrdhouse. He will play on a 1968 Jose Ramirez guitar from Madrid, Spain.

Nolan Harvel, a guitarist, composer, and producer also based in Los Angeles, has an impressive background. With training from Vanderbilt’s Blair School of Music and Pepperdine University under the renowned Christopher Parkening, Nolan's accolades include performances at Carnegie Hall and a First Prize at the University of Indiana International Guitar Competition. His work has been featured on NPR, and he continues to contribute to the arts as the staff music composer and producer for the Centered on the Arts Podcast, alongside various other musical pursuits. He will play on a 2017 Mirko Migliorini from Milan, Italy.

The Pacific Duo formed in 2020 at Pepperdine University, where they both study under Parkening. Their debut EP, recorded in Malibu, was released in March 2021. Their hard work and dedication were recognized in April 2022 when they won first prize in the Thomas M. Osborne Concerto Competition.

The group aims to shift how classical music is viewed and appreciated today. By blending traditional techniques with contemporary influences, Nolan and Garrett are crafting a unique sound that resonates with a broad audience, proving that classical music can be both timeless and modern.

Stay tuned for more updates on The Pacific Duo as they continue their journey to redefine classical music and inspire a new generation of listeners.
